Since his childhood, Richard Tucker has exhibited talent and shown deep interest in creating things with his hands.  As a boy in West Texas he was constantly carving things of wood, including animals and human figures.   

Tucker’s formal art training has included art courses at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas; the University of Northern Colorado; Colorado State University and private seminars from professional sculptors.

Tucker did his first bronze casting in 1977 and has been involved in sculpting bronzes ever since. Since 1993 Tucker has worked full time as a sculptor.  He really enjoys working with the clay for casting in bronze. His hope is that the finished piece will give an impression of life and his hope is that people will enjoy looking at it over and over again.

Tucker’s art is in private collections all over the country as his work has been juried into shows from coast to coast including shows in California, Florida, Massachusetts, Illinois, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska.   He was glad to be in the  “Wildlife Sculpture Series” held at Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, Florida 1998-1999 as that show accepted only 16 artists nationwide.

For four years in a row in September Tucker has been invited to be Artist in Residence at Sylvan Lake Resort in the Black Hills near Custer, South Dakota.

Tucker’s work can currently be seen in The Prairie Edge Gallery in Rapid City,SD, in A walk in the Woods Gallery in Custer, SD and in The Red Stallion Gallery in Glen Haven, CO. He is proud to have his “Jack” in the “Sculpture Walk, Pavilion to the Falls” in Sioux Falls, SD through May 2010.

Recently (March 2004) Tucker’s work could be seen in the Museum of Nebraska Art’s “Spirit: A Celebration of art in the Heartland” exhibit and sale at the museum in Kearney, Nebraska.  In an auction format with spirited bidding Tucker’s work sold out.

Tucker has just relocated to Custer, South Dakota in the Black Hills.  He is happy to be in this area of the American West that is so very rich is history.
