ENHANCING THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE AT SDSU
Here at the Alumni Association, we are not only focused on connecting
with today's Alumni of South Dakota State University, but also
supporting and enhancing the college experience of tomorrow's alumni,
the students. Through our student driven chapter, Staters for State,
we are able to promote SDSU,
encourage student leadership, and establish a connection between SDSU
alumni and current students. This group is comprised of students from
all majors, class years, and backgrounds.

What we do
playing in the mud could be so much fun? Oozeball, a mud volleyball
tournament, has become a tradition on campus for over twenty years and
is hosted by Staters. We are responsible for many of SDSU's premier and
traditional events including:
SDSU FAMILY OF THE YEAR
South Dakota State University Family of the Year is a very special
honor given to one family each year. This has been a tradition of the
SDSU campus since 1979. The Family of the Year is chosen by the Staters
for State. Several criteria are considered when choosing the Family of
Alumni Tailgating has become a tradition connected to SDSU
Football. Students involved with Staters for State, our student
chapter, help to organize and serve at every home tailgate giving these
students an opportunity to join in on the fun and network with SDSU
OOZEBALL is the official SDSU Mud Volleyball Tournament and
is a tradition that stems back to 1986. Every Spring SDSU students are
invited to compete in what promises to be a muddy, good time!
The Jackrabbit Bash is an event created to give "Jack", our
school mascot, an official birthday party. The bash is held in the
Student Union with all students welcome to attend. Students can enjoy
some free cake, hangout and listen to music and get a photo op with with
the birthday boy.
Fall Convocation occurs the weekend before the start of Fall
classes and is directed towards incoming Freshman. During this time
they are introduced to different university officials, university
traditions and what being a Jackrabbit is all about!

lead by taking part in the developmental stages of the various events we
It's not only what you know, but
who you know! Members work closely with the Alumni Association and key
University members to gain valuable experience and advice. you'll meet
and interact with alumni from around the country with various
backgrounds and degrees, as well as, the Brookings community and beyond
as coordination of events requires many outside elements.

Believe it or not, after graduation, you are expected to get a job! Being an active member of Staters for State is a great student organization to list on your resume and show your involvement as SDSU outside of academics.

Besides hosting all kinds of events, we
have monthly meetings to take care of business including the formations
of committees to plan our events. All work and no play makes the
jackrabbit a dull bunny; therefore, we like to have fun every now and
then. So we make sure to have fun along the way.
